CHENNAI: A 23-year-old man consumed poison and committed suicide at Thiruverkadu on Friday after his parents allegedly refused to allow him to identify himself as a transgender. Police said Karthik from Bajanai Koil Street used to hang around with the transgenders in his area and when he told his parents of his innate feelings, they rebuked him. On Friday, he was found unconscious frothing at the mouth near his house. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead. Police sources claimed that once before the boy had run away from his house. He was found at Koovagam near Villupuram, where the yearly transgender festival takes place. Thiruverkadu police are investigating.
